Vote For Mads Realmuto

My Bio

I grew up right here, attending Starlight, Valencia, Aptos Junior High, and Aptos High. Today, my two children are in PVUSD elementary schools, so this district is my family's life. While I see the incredible dedication of our educators every day, I have also seen how hard it is for families to get support when systems fail. I successfully advocated for my own kids, but a quality education shouldn't depend on a family's resources. I want to build a district where every family can rely on the system to work. Right now, trust is eroding because major decisions are made without staff input, and we are cutting student-facing staff before looking at administrative efficiencies. I am running to bring respectful governance, responsible budgeting, and clear accountability to PVUSD, always prioritizing the people and programs closest to our students.

My Key Issues

Student Achievement and Whole-Child Learning

Every student deserves measurable progress in literacy and math, and the conditions that make learning possible: safety, mental-health support, manageable class sizes, and adequate aides and behavioral supports. I will push for evidence-based instruction, early intervention, and meaningful teacher collaboration time, while protecting arts, sports, hands-on learning, and career and technical education as equally valued pathways. Technology must serve learning, not replace human connection.

Sustainable, Student-Centered District Transformation

PVUSD needs a real long-term strategy, not a budget scramble every cycle. Any restructuring must be backed by data, a clear look at student and employee impact, and educators in the room from the start. Before cutting student-facing positions, the district must address under-enrolled facilities, administrative costs, major contracts, and revenue opportunities. Workforce stability, fair compensation, and employee voice are not afterthoughts; they are essential to student outcomes.

Trust, Transparency, and Accountability

The board must set clear, measurable goals and report progress publicly. Draft agendas and materials should be published at least 30 days in advance, giving staff and community time for real input before decisions are made. Communication should strengthen school-level relationships, not just district-wide messaging. Employee morale, vacancies, and turnover should be tracked and reported as indicators of district health.
